All classes will be from 5:30-7pm and held over zoom.

Being able to grow our own food is a skill we can use today, as well as in a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland. 

Whether you have the space for a backyard garden or are considering container gardening, this is the class for you!

Get started with an online class with Lynn, longtime community gardener and Living Earth Center’s Garden Mentor. 

Learn about prepping your space, basic tools, plant spacing, and easy plants for beginners.  Gain confidence to get going with your own garden this summer!

 

After the wandering zombie hoards destroy all the grocery stores… where will we find our food?

Being able to forage for our own food is a skill we can use today, as well as in a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland.

This class will cover the basics of getting started on foraging for food items in the early spring in Minnesota. We will cover gear, plant and mushroom I.D., habitat, and timing for your foraging outings.

This class will focus on Morel Mushrooms, wild Asparagus, Ramps, Fiddleheads, and Ginger, with a few other items thrown in as we find them.

After the wandering zombie hoards destroy our cities, we will no longer be able to simply turn on the tap, where are we going to find our water supply?

Being able to conserve water is a skill we can use today, as well as in a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland.

In this class we will learn about harvesting rainwater and recycling greywater, as well as other water conservation tips.

After the wandering zombie hoards ransack the CVS, where are we going to find our medicine?

Learning the basics of medicinal plants is a skill we can use today, as well as in a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland.

Presented by Megan Schnitker, Executive Director of Mahkato Revitalization Project, and Owner of Lakota Made.
For thousands of years Indigenous people survived off the land. In the last 100 years many of the Traditional Plant medicine knowledge has been lost due to genocide, loss of culture and boarding schools.
Megan L. Schnitker has been researching for 14+ years on Tradition Plant Medicine and wild Edibles their common uses, traditional uses, and modern applications for sustainable living.

The goal of this class is to bring basic awareness of the use of plants through story and education. The class is a beginning level class that will have 15 plants to begin to cover, this class will not leave you an expert in these plants but give you a basic guide to begin learning about them.

Being able to can and preserve foods is a skill skill we can use today, as well as in a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland.

This introductory canning class is designed to give you the basic information you need to try your hand at canning and see where it takes you. We will focus on equipment and food safety. I'll share some of my favorite canning disasters with you and let you know what I learned from them. We will can tomatoes using a water bath canner, but I will also touch on the role of pressure canners. I will send you off with resources to help you find your next canning adventure and help you do so safely
